PK-30 Takes on Desired Future State with Value Stream Mapping

PK-30 System is a meticulously designed and engineered aluminum demountable wall system that offers a flexible, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective way to divide interior spaces. The system supports multiple configurations—sliding doors, hinged doors, pocket doors, fixed panels, and operable walls—while maintaining a unified design aesthetic through narrow aluminum profiles. PK-30 delivers modern, multi-functional architectural elements with precision from a single-source manufacturer.
Over the past few years, PK-30 started making plans to expand operations to accommodate the growth and demand for their products. Wanting to ensure their new facility would be optimized for manufacturing efficiency, PK-30 reached out to MTEC for Value Stream Mapping and Manufacturing Process Improvement services.
Working with MTEC engineer Phil Van Oss, the Value Stream Mapping and Lean initiative training gave the PK-30 team a visual depiction of both their current state process and a future state that incorporates lean principles. The interactive analysis allowed staff to identify issues and develop solutions. These outcomes provided a roadmap for performance improvements and the layout of their new facility. Coaching and guidance also helped them use lean principles for focused manufacturing improvements—principles that will later support expansion of their product line offerings.
These improvements helped increase sales, cut costs, and drive investments into plant equipment, processes, and staff, positioning the company for continued growth.
“With the implementation of our 5S effort, we have felt the benefits of many operational improvements. Dave Tooker's experience, guidance, and suggestions are felt throughout the entire facility - from the front offices to the production floor and out the shipping doors. We feel these efficiencies ultimately translate to a better work environment, more productive employees, and an improvement in our products. We also have to thank our factory staff for their participation, suggestions and hard work in making our 5S program a success.”
